An update about the Butterfly Habitat at Micella Vivrette Smith Park:
The wildflowers we planted at Smith Park have come up nicely. A recent visit to the site revealed a lot of pink cosmos, orange sulphur cosmos, plains coreopsis, partridge pea, clasping coneflower, and several other varieties of native wildflowers that were not present last year.
Unfortunately, the milkweed did not take, which has not surprised us given the drought conditions after planting last year. Milkweed seeds will be spread again this fall for a spring germination.
We will continue to wait on signage until the star of the show (milkweed) gets established. No-mow signage is protecting the planted areas of the butterfly habitat.
